Longarm quilting and snippets of my life

Painted fabric

I took a wonderful on line class on MQResource, it was an Art Quilting class taught by Jean Shute. One of the lessons was on painting fabric. The idea is to paint white fabric, like bleached muslin, to give you a fabric rich in color and texture. This was my first attempt at doing anything like this, and I have to say it was really fun. The only part I didn’t like was having to wait for it to dry. I had to wait over 24 hours! I’m not very patient when it comes to stuff like this, so I was also getting a lesson there too. Here’s what the pieces looked like while they were drying, This is the first one  I used the primary colors, (red, blue, yellow), and just let it dry flat. It’s OK, but not my favorite. Next I made an orange piece,I like this one a lot. Then I did a green one,  this turned out really cool, but I had hoped for more of a green color. Then for purple,  Way cool, I’m feeling this one. I decided to see what the primary one would look like if I scrunched it and I got this,  I liked this much better than the one I left flat. I used a piece of white fabric as my clean up rag, and it turned out pretty cool,

Now what am I going to do with this new, awesome fabric?  I’m not sure, but I’m thinking of a couple of different things. One of the problems with me getting an idea, is that I don’t usually know how  to get it out of my head and into the fabric. I’m learning, and working on this. It may be a while, but I’m sure when I do get it done, it’s going to be awesome! 🙂
